2012 Umpire Clinics

The first step to becoming a women's lacrosse umpire is to attend a New Umpire Clinic. There are two types of clinics:

  • Adult Umpire Beginner Clinics are for prospective umpires 18 years of age or older and out of high school. No prior umpiring experience is required. These clinics include 8 hours of classroom instruction in 3 or 4 sessions.  Completing the course, passing a 3-4 hour field rating session, joining US Lacrosse and joining EMWLUA earns the participant an Apprentice Rating.
  • Junior Umpire Clinics are for prospective umpires under 18 years old and in high school who want to umpire youth games (not high school games). These clinics include 6 hours of classroom instruction in 3 class sessions.  We will train you on the basics of lacrosse umpiring through classroom and on-the-field training. Based on your age and your field rating you will be able to umpire girls youth lacrosse games on Sundays in April, May and June and possibly at the various league Jamborees in June.

NOTE to returning Junior Umpires:  You can attend a Junior Umpire clinic this year at no charge, but you must renew your EMWLUA membership.  First, log in (see instructions here) and pay your $40 dues for 2012.  Then come back to this page, select the Junior Umpire Clinic that you want to attend, and register as a returning Junior Umpire for free.  You will not be able to select the returning Junior Umpire option unless you log in first.

Each clinic has it's own schedule (with different dates and times), so be sure to read the course descriptions carefully.  Space in each clinic is limited, and you must attend all meetings.

After you have attended the first meeting of your Beginner Clinic you should click on the "New Umpire Registration" link to the left and add yourself to the EMWLUA Membership System.  You will be a "Beginner Clinic Student" (provisional) member until you complete your clinic and your field rating.
